Who we are
Fantasy Guide is responsible for deciding how personal information is used for this website and our own free and paid guide services. That makes Fantasy Guide the controller for those activities under UK data protection law.
For privacy questions or requests, email support@fantasyguide.uk. When you use a service run by another company, its own privacy notice also explains how that company uses information.
Information we use
What we receive depends on what you do:
- Visiting our website: technical request and security information that our hosting provider generates, such as an IP address, requested page, time, browser or device details and security events.
- Contacting us: your email address, any name you provide, your message and our replies.
- Requesting a free mini-guide: your email address, optional first name, selected draft position, marketing choice and request source or campaign details where collected.
- Buying a personalised guide: the email and draft position used for fulfilment, product and order details, price and payment status, Stripe transaction references, and delivery and support records. You enter payment card details with Stripe, not on this website.
- Accepting analytics on this website: information about pages viewed, how you arrived here, campaign links and selected outbound link destinations, together with browser or device information used to understand website use and performance. A click on “Sample the product” is recorded as the category sample_guide, without sending the full guide URL or its access token to Google Analytics.
- Subscribing through Substack: you give your email address to Substack when you sign up for the Fantasy Guide publication. Substack shows us your email address and subscription status in our publisher dashboard. This Astro website does not itself collect or store the email address you submit to Substack.
You give us some information directly. Stripe sends us payment confirmation and order details; our providers generate the technical and service records needed to run the service. We do not ask you to send sensitive personal information through this website or our guide forms.
Why we use it, and our lawful bases
UK data protection law requires a lawful basis for each use. We use:
- Contract
- To process a paid purchase, deliver the guide and any included revised edition, and deal with fulfilment issues connected with that purchase.
- Legitimate interests
- To provide a free mini-guide you request; answer enquiries; keep proportionate customer and service records; and operate and protect our services. Our interests are in serving readers and customers, preventing misuse and improving our services, subject to your rights.
- Consent
- To use optional website analytics or send optional Fantasy Guide product marketing where you have actively chosen them. You can withdraw either choice at any time.
- Legal obligation
- To keep or provide information where applicable tax, accounting or other law requires us to do so.
When you subscribe through Substack, you request the Fantasy Guide publication. Fantasy Guide can access your email address and subscription status in its publisher dashboard to manage that subscriber relationship. Substack handles signup, delivery and preferences. We do not treat a publication subscription as consent to separate product marketing.
Your email and draft position are needed to send a requested guide. Payment and order information is needed to complete a purchase. If you do not provide the necessary details, we cannot fulfil that request or order.
Marketing and subscriptions
Separate product-marketing emails are optional. Requesting a free guide, buying a guide or contacting support does not automatically sign you up for them. If you opt in, we may send Fantasy Guide updates and information about our products.
A Substack signup is a request to receive the Fantasy Guide publication. It does not by itself enrol you in a separate product-marketing list. Substack manages publication email delivery and your subscription preferences, including unsubscribing.
You can withdraw consent for separate product marketing using any unsubscribe option provided with a message or by emailing support@fantasyguide.uk. Withdrawal does not affect messages needed to deal with a guide request or purchase.
Who is involved
We use providers to run the website and guide service:
- Cloudflare for website delivery, security, email routing and optional Cloudflare Web Analytics on this website.
- Google for optional Google Analytics 4 (GA4) on this website and the existing GA4 connection on our Substack publication.
- Supabase for contact, request, order and fulfilment records.
- Resend for service and transactional email.
- Stripe for checkout and payment processing.
- Substack for publication signup, email delivery, subscription preferences and the publisher dashboard.
These providers receive or handle information needed for their services. For Substack, you submit your email address to Substack and it makes your email address and subscription status available to us in its publisher dashboard. Google and Cloudflare process website analytics information when you accept optional analytics here. Read the Google privacy policy and Cloudflare privacy policy for more about their processing. We do not sell your personal information.
Substack and other platforms
Our “Join the community” link takes you to the Fantasy Guide publication on Substack. Substack handles signup, publication email delivery and subscription preferences. We can view subscriber email addresses and subscription status in its publisher dashboard. The publication also has an existing GA4 connection. Analytics activity on Substack is separate from visits to this website. Substack's own privacy notice also explains its processing; your analytics choice on fantasyguide.uk does not set your preferences on Substack.
Our links to TikTok, X and Instagram also take you to those platforms, where their own privacy notices apply. The sample guide at guide.fantasyguide.uk is a Fantasy Guide service covered by this notice. The GA4 tag and Cloudflare Web Analytics beacon described here are installed only on fantasyguide.uk, not on the guide-serving domain. Measuring activity inside the guide would be a separate change.
Information outside the UK
Some of the providers named above may process or store information outside the UK. The applicable location and transfer arrangements depend on the provider and service. You can ask us for details of any safeguards that apply to your information at support@fantasyguide.uk.
How long we keep information
We use the purpose of a record to decide how long it is needed, together with any legal, accounting, tax, security or dispute requirements. In particular:
- Paid order and fulfilment records are kept while needed for purchase support, tax, accounting and possible disputes.
- Free-guide requests and correspondence are kept while needed to fulfil the request, answer follow-up questions or maintain necessary service and security records.
- Marketing details are used until you withdraw consent or we stop the activity. We may keep the minimum information needed to respect an opt-out.
- Technical and security records are kept for service operation, troubleshooting and protection while those purposes require them.
Our GA4 property is configured to retain event-level and user-level data for 14 months. New activity does not reset the user-data retention period. These settings do not set Cloudflare's or Substack's retention periods, or the availability of every aggregated GA4 report.

Keeping information secure
We use proportionate safeguards, including HTTPS, restricted access to operational systems, server-side checks on guide requests and established payment and email providers. No online service can promise perfect security, so we also aim to limit unnecessary collection and access.
Your rights
Depending on the circumstances, you can ask to access your information, correct it, erase it, restrict its use or receive certain information in a portable form. You can withdraw consent where we rely on it.
You can object to processing based on our legitimate interests. We will consider your objection under UK data protection law. You can object to direct marketing at any time. We will stop using your information for that purpose.
These rights are not absolute and legal exceptions may apply. Email support@fantasyguide.uk to make a request. We may need to verify your identity before responding.
Questions and complaints
Please email support@fantasyguide.uk if you are concerned about how we use information. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) through its complaints service.
Changes to this policy
We will update this notice when our services, providers or legal requirements change. The current version will appear here with its latest update date.
